November 3, 2009

This afternoon, after voting, I went to Mannington Meadows and stopped at the road side with my flashers on. . . caused a hold up in traffic and a cop (state trooper) stopped to ask what was happening. (He didn't know about the swans being killed.)

I counted about 30 individuals (swans) on the east side of 540 possibly a few more, and none on the river side.  I then went to Nimrod Road (by the Seabrook property) and the Old Kings Highway and found the bridge out, but proceeded as far as I could to see both waterways on either side of the road.  I spotted about 5 or 6 individuals on the west side (near the Seabrook home) and about 5 or 6 individuals on the east side of that road well back against the shore line to the south.

If my count was fairly accurate, they (NJ F&W) culled over half of the original population.
